Climate Change
MJP is working with the ACIAR (Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research) research team to engage farmers in Participatory Action Research in 2010. This research will help identify strategies for optimum choices of farming systems and practices that best cope with climate variability and climate change. MJP will use Global Climate Model (GCM) projections to predict future climate scenarios for Battambang. We will then use simulation models to determine the impacts on crop yields under different management scenarios. Battambang climate records show that it has been getting hotter and drier since 1982 when records commenced. It is expected that reduced crop residue burning and cultivation will be essential for sustainable crop production in a hotter and drier climate.
