EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE FOR DEVELOPMENT

Cambodia is working towards developing its ECCD (Early Childhood Care for Development) system. UNICEF and ETA (Educational for All) have raised awareness of the important role of ECCD in order to achieve the second MDG (millennium developmental goals), universal education. Research indicates that children who participate in early learning are ready to start kindergarten on time, less likely to repeat grades and more likely to pursue a higher level of education. As part of the initiative to reach the second MDG, Best Start Samluat will be implemented for the families and children of Samlaut commune.

Not only will Best Start Samluat work towards achieving the second MDG, it will also holistically support children and families development through care; integrating many important aspect of development such as, health, nutrition, social, emotional and cognitive stimulation.

The community-based approach is hoped to engage families through a non-hierarchical and participatory approach. Best Start Samlaut anticipates this approach will empower parents, build networks of support and help strengthen the commune of Samlaut.
