Natural Resource Management
To reduce deforestation in the areas outside Samlout Protected Area, MJP, in cooperation with the Battambang Forestry Administration (FA), established 11 Community Forestry (CF) schemes in 4 target communes: 3 sites in Samlout, 4 sites in Tasanh, 1 site in Sung and 3 sites in Meanchey. Community Forestry is a system for community-based natural resources management that is legislated by the Cambodian Government Forest Law of 2002 and the Sub-Decree on Community Forest Management (2003). Community forestry places responsibilities for forest protection, management and utilization on local communities living in the vicinity of those forests, while maintaining the community forest land as state-owned property.
