Psychosocial Stimulation Project 2010
By Beth Jacobs, MJP NHS Community Therapist
05 August 2010
In April 2010, our health team launched a new mother-child support group called BFCI (Baby Friendly Community Initiative). Our health team trained the mothers in psychosocial stimulation/baby massage. Participants learned stimulation techniques and meditation in order to cascade to new mothers attending future monthly BFCI meetings.
In May, attendance of the mothers was monitored. Psychosocial stimulation/baby massage teaching sessions were held at 6 villages. These sessions were arranged by our BFCI Coordinator Nop Buny, working hard in unison with the BFCI (Baby Friendly Community Initiative) trainers and myself. In May a total of 80 new mothers were in attendance.
