In 2007, MJP cooperated with the Canadian organization Right To Play to bring Red Ball Child Play (RBCP) to Samlout. RBCP focuses on 5 areas of development: thought and intellect, body, feelings and emotion, social relationship, and state of well-being. In November 2009, MJP organized a pilot school training for 26 teachers in Samlout district. In addition to the pilot school training, MJP and Right To Play provided a Train the Trainer workshop to improve the ability of MJP Sport Coordinators to facilitate sport workshop sessions. The sessions focused on leadership, communication, inclusion, safety and session discussions.

“We will rely on our abilities to work as a team, to cooperate, to communicate and to respect ourselves and each other in the year ahead. I am confident that we will be able to meet the challenges and come out stronger,” said Mercredi Chik, MJP's Education Project Officer, toward the end of the workshop.

This workshop achieved the following successes:

  • Facilitated 84 different sports activities,
  • Increased collaboration between MJP staff and teachers,
  • Increased self-confidence of participants,
  • Provided practical components to MJP Sport Coordinators that allowed them to lead a full sports session with teachers and students local primary schools.
